When Pasefika early childhood setting first start.

In the history of Pasefika early childhood settings is that there was a collective movement by the community to start something that is similar to Kohanga Reo and the main reason for that is to maintain the first language or the mother tongue of Pasefika people. The main principle of Pasefika pedagogies is collectively children can learn their first language when they are at home, community and churches. In the year 1984, there was a group of parents and grandparents that started an Aoga Faa- Samoa in Auckland. This was the Pasefika language and culture immersion early childhood in New Zealand, this Aoga Fa’aSamoa also became the first Pasefika early childhood centre became licensed in New Zealand. (Valerie, Padmore & Samu 2006). There are many Pasefika background migrated in New Zealand for a better future for their family. Thaman (2010) indicated the main reason why Tongan people leave their home country because of a better life so it is the same with Samoan people. These Pasefika people are looking for ‘Poto’ or the knowledge to achieved education, the word Poto in Samoa is exactly the same context with Tongan is that if something achieved their education then that’s Poto it literally ‘Poto’ means ‘smart’ or intelligent. Then ILO is the knowledge    that they gain from Ako or learning experience.  If someone succeed their education Samoan always refer that person is ‘Poto’ and that is why a lot of Pasefika people migrated in New Zealand so their children will have a better life of education here.
